This course is in line with KCSIE for 2026

It covers:

  • What safeguarding means
  • New safeguarding considerations in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026
  • How to recognise and report a safeguarding concern
  • How to monitor safeguarding

There's an assessment at the end to test how well you've understood the main points from the course.

This is our refresher course. New governors/trustees, or those who feels less confident in their safeguarding responsibilities, should take our full safeguarding for governance course instead. It covers all these topics in more detail.

Please note:

If you have membership for both The Key Safeguarding and GovernorHub Knowledge, you can access this course on either site.

Governors’ training records will show on the site they took the training on, so if some governors are missing from the training records, please check the other site.

We apologise for any inconvenience this causes you.

Course updates

2 September 2026

This course is fully up to date with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026, including the updates made by the DfE on 1 September 2026.
We've updated this course to align with the revised definition of sexual abuse, and that child-on-child abuse can include discriminatory behaviour.
