Help your governors top-up their safeguarding knowledge annually with this interactive refresher course and assessment. It includes information about what's new in KCSIE and a reminder of how governors can fulfil their safeguarding duty.

Changes to this course in November 2025
Following feedback on the assessment for this course, we’ve updated a question to make it clearer and more focused on what governors need to do if they encounter misinformation, disinformation or conspiracy theories.
If you’ve already completed the course, you don’t need to do anything. If you’ve already started the course, your progress will be ‘reset’, but you can click straight through to where you left off.
This course is in line with KCSIE for 2025
It covers:
- What safeguarding means
- New safeguarding considerations in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025
- How to recognise and report a safeguarding concern
- How to monitor safeguarding
There's an assessment at the end to test how well you've understood the main points from the course.
This is our refresher course. New governors/trustees, or those who feels less confident in their safeguarding responsibilities, should take our full safeguarding for governance course instead. It covers all these topics in more detail.
