Preventing radicalisation
This 40-minute course provides essential training based on the Prevent duty guidance and KCSIE 2026. Use it to make sure staff know how to keep children safe from the threat of radicalisation, spot the signs, and tackle extremist views at school.
Who it's for
All staff, volunteers, contractors and governors/trustees
This course covers everything your staff need to know about how to help keep children safe from the threat of radicalisation. This includes understanding how to apply the notice, check, share procedure:
- Notice early signs that may indicate vulnerability to radicalisation
- Check concerns appropriately
- Share the information by making a referral
You'll also learn how to respond safely to concerning statements or behaviours.
Course updates
We've updated our course in line with the DfE's non-statutory guidance the Prevent duty: practical guidance for designated safeguarding leads, to include information about antisemitism and weapons fascination.
Rest assured that if your staff took this course before our update, they don't need to retake it as they will still have taken accurate Prevent training fully compliant with statutory Prevent duty guidance from the Home Office and Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026.
The only changes we've made are to add the following information:
1. That antisemitism can be a feature of a range of extremist and terrorist ideologies, including some forms of Islamist terrorism, extreme right-wing terrorism and other radicalising narratives or worldviews
2. Concerning behaviours that may indicate a pupil is being radicalised can also include:
- Glorifying, supporting or repeatedly discussing violence and conflict
- A fixation with weapons or explosives
3. That SEND does not cause radicalisation. Where a child's needs are being missed or misunderstood, their vulnerability can increase through:
- Reduced critical understanding
- Greater susceptibility to influence
- More exposure to harmful ideologies
We've updated our course to clarify that SEND does not cause radicalisation, and that where a child's needs are being missed or misunderstood, their vulnerability can increase.
We've reviewed the course to make sure it's in line with KCSIE 2026.
The only change is clarification that if any more information comes to light while a Prevent referral is being assessed, this should also be passed to the police.
