This course covers everything your staff need to know about how to help keep children safe from the threat of radicalisation, including:

  • How to meet requirements under the Prevent duty
  • How children are radicalised and how to spot the signs
  • When, where and how to refer pupils for further help
  • How to tackle extremist views and build resistance

What’s new?

29 August 2024: we updated this course in line with KCSIE 2024.

16 January 2023: although there are no new legal or additional responsibilities for schools under the 2023 Prevent duty guidance, we’ve brought this course in line with the updated guidance.

We’ve:

  • Added that you should designate a staff member to lead and oversee Prevent (although it's likely that your designated safeguarding lead (DSL) already does this)
  • Clarified that, as with any safeguarding issue, data protection legislation doesn’t stop you from sharing information to keep a child safe
  • Clarified that schools should not only be alert to violent extremism, but also non-violent extremism, including certain divisive or intolerant narratives that can reasonably be linked to terrorism
  • Added in Home Office guidance on how to notice, check and share concerns
  • Brought terminology in line with the 2023 guidance

For full details about how these changes affect you, take a look at our Need-to-know and the DfE's briefing for schools.
