Female genital mutilation (FGM)
Understand what FGM is and learn about the risk factors. Help all staff to know how to respond if they suspect FGM will happen or has happened, and what to do if a pupil makes a disclosure.
Who it's for
All school staff
This course is in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025, which was published on 1 September 2025.
In around 30 minutes, this course covers:
- What FGM is
- The factors which might mean a child is at greater risk of FGM
- The signs that FGM may be about to take place, or has taken place
- How to act if you suspect or know that FGM is about to take place, or has taken place
Use it to:
- Equip all your staff and volunteers to help keep children safe from FGM
- Meet your responsibilities under KCSIE with regard to FGM, including the mandatory duty for teachers to report known cases of FGM
Staff will finish with a short assessment to test their knowledge and put their learning into practice.
